Data science is an interdisciplinary, rapidly emerging branch of learning that facilitates extracting information from large datasets using scientific methods that combine mathematics, statistics, computer science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, deep learning, and domain-specific knowledge.
The proposed interdisciplinary FYUP in Data Science will provide formal training in various quantitative techniques, along with a unique blend of theory and practice interwoven in a qualitative matrix. The programme will facilitate a systematic amalgamation of widespread knowledge under a common platform.

The field of economics has become indispensable part of any decision-making process. In the face of scarcity, the effective use of resources becomes a problem of prime importance. Within economics, issues like consumption, production, employment, savings and investment, money, banking system, development policies, taxation, international trade, environment and others that form the core of this subject. To tackle these issues, a strong analytical foundation comprising mathematics, statistics, and econometrics is necessary. The FYUP is aimed at ensuring that students learn the required tools, analyse economic issues and apply them to real world economic issues and contribute to policy discussions.

TERI School of Advanced Studies was set up as a Trust by TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) - a not-for-profit, independent research institute recognized globally for its contribution to scientific and policy research in the realms of energy, environment, and sustainable development in 1998. In 1999, the TERI School of Advanced Studies was granted the ‘Deemed to be University’ status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and notified vide the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India, notification no. F.9/19/95-U-3, dated October 5, 1999. The objective of the TERI SAS is to build capacity around various themes of sustainable development adopting an inter-disciplinary approach and incorporating the most contemporary, research-based evidence into the curriculum. Since its inception, the TERI SAS has offered not just world-class education, but also an environment that enables its students to develop fresh perspective in their subject areas. Beyond the academic programmes, the deemed University is actively reaching out to school and college students as also to mid-career professionals to sensitize them towards the environment and sustainable development in a systemic, solutions-oriented manner. The deemed University started functioning from its ‘green campus’, located in Vasant Kunj, in 2008 and today offers a dozen Masters programmes and has nearly 200 PhD students enrolled. It has started work on developing a new campus at Hyderabad, Telangana in the south of India and hopes to start offering academic programmes from this campus.
Apart from doctoral research, the TERI SAS offers MBA programme in Sustainability Management, MSc degree Programmes in Environmental Studies and Resource Management, Economics, Geoinformatics, Climate Science and Policy, Water Science and Governance and Biotechnology;; and MTech programmes in Renewable Energy Engineering and Management, Water Resources Engineering and Management and Urban Development Management; and LL.M. programmes in Environment & Natural Resources Law and in Infrastructure & Business Law. The University offers two MA programmes, one in Public Policy and Sustainable Development, and the other in Sustainable Development Practice. The TERI SAS is one of a select group of 22 institutions chosen worldwide by the MacArthur Foundation, USA, to run the Sustainable Development Practice programme. The TERI SAS offers four-year undergraduate degree programmes (FYUP) and five-year integrated postgraduate degree programmes (FYIPP). The University has launched FYUP in Data Science, Environmental Studies, Economics and Business Administration along with FYIPP in Data Science and Environmental Studies from academic session 2023. All the programmes have been designed in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the recent guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission with in-built choices of multiple entry and multiple exit options mapped with employability opportunities.
